Zimbabwe to free 3,000 prisoners to reduce COVID-19 risk in jails

Zimbabwe said that it aims to release 3,000 prisoners under a presidential amnesty to reduce the threat of COVID-19 in the country's overcrowded jails. Officials released about 400 prisoners from prisons in Zimbabwe's capital Harare as part of the plan on Saturday. The country's prisons have a capacity of 17,000 prisoners but held about 22,000 before the amnesty was declared.
