'Zombie viruses' could cause new deadly pandemic, warn scientists
Ancient "zombie viruses" frozen in melting Arctic permafrost could fuel new pandemic if unleashed by climate change, scientists warned. Ancient viruses have already been found in Siberian permafrost. A team led by geneticist Jean-Michel Claverie revived such viruses capable of infecting single-cell organisms. But scientists fear viruses capable of infecting humans likely also lurk in permafrost.
