₹2,000 notes not being phased out: Nirmala Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday said that the banks have not been given any instructions to not issue ₹2,000 denomination notes or to recalibrate their ATMs to phase out the notes gradually. Sitharaman's clarification came after certain media reports claimed that ATMs were being rebooted to accommodate more ₹500 denomination notes in order to eventually phase out ₹2,000 notes.
