Antarctica was home to rainforests 90 million years ago: Study

Around 90 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, Antarctica at the South Pole was much warmer, housing "swampy" rainforests, a study found. Scans of a sediment layer collected from Antarctic seafloor revealed samples of forest soil, pollen, spores and root systems. Researchers found that Antarctica had average temperatures of 12°C, due to warming from high carbon dioxide levels.
