Arctic's largest remaining ice shelf loses ice chunk of 110 square km; pics surface

A big chunk of ice has broken away from the Arctic's largest remaining ice shelf '79N' or 'Nioghalvfjerdsfjorden' in north-east Greenland, satellite images showed. The broken-off section covers about 110 square kilometres and it has further shattered into many small pieces. "The atmosphere in this region has warmed by about 3℃ since 1980," Dr Jenny Turton told BBC News.
