German automaker Volkswagen's CEO Herbert Diess apologised on Tuesday for making a pun on a Nazi slogan at a company event. Herbert Diess used the phrase "EBIT macht frei", where EBIT refers to "earnings before interest and taxes". The line evoked the slogan on the main gate of the Auschwitz concentration camp, "Arbeit macht frei", meaning "work sets you free".
