Deep-sea worms, bacteria help each other harvest methane: Study

Scientists at Caltech and Occidental College have discovered symbiosis between worms and bacteria at the bottom of the sea. They found that the bacteria "hitch" a ride on the feathery plumes that act as respiratory organs of Laminatubus and Bispira worms. These bacteria, which harvest carbon and energy from methane vents in ocean floor, are then digested by the worms.
