A 40-year-old wild elephant was killed after a staff member of a private resort in Tamil Nadu's Nilgiris district threw a burning tyre at it. The burning tyre got stuck on the elephant’s ear and forced it to run away. Forest rangers later found the elephant with severe burn injuries. Two people, including the resort's owner, have been detained.
