Bhupen Hazarika's family has decided to turn down Bharat Ratna that was conferred to the Assamese singer posthumously, to protest Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. The Bill seeks to make minorities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan who entered India before December 31, 2014, eligible for citizenship. It is said to impact over one crore tribal people in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.
