The government has said that around 40 cases of Delta plus coronavirus variant (B.1.617.2.1 or AY.1) have been observed in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala so far with no significant increase in prevalence. The government added that a second clade found in sequences uploaded to GISAID from the USA, is now designated AY.2, but is not seen in India yet.
