India should introduce cervical cancer vaccine: WHO official

World Health Organisation official Dr Soumya Swaminathan has said that India should introduce the HPV vaccine as cervical cancer kills 70,000 women every year in the country. It is a WHO recommendation that all countries should do so, she added. This comes after the Home Ministry decided not to introduce the vaccine following objections raised by RSS-affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch.
