Maharashtra government on Friday announced that Islampur in Sangli district will be renamed as Ishwarpur. The decision was made in Thursday’s cabinet meeting and announced in legislature on Friday. Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said it will now be sent to the Centre for approval. A Shiv Sena leader has claimed that demand for change in name has been pending since 1986.
