Group Captain Sanjeev Naraynen (retd), who shot down an intruding Pakistani maritime surveillance aircraft over Gujarat on August 10, 1999 after the Kargil War, called the incident "unfortunate". The downing of the naval aircraft left five officers and 11 sailors dead. "We didn't expect so many to be on the aircraft...I learned about them when media reported...their funeral," Naraynen added.
