A 28-year-old man was sentenced to four months in prison for slapping French President Emmanuel Macron in the face. Damien Tarel was also banned from ever standing for public office and from owning weapons for five years. Tarel, a medieval martial arts enthusiast, told the court that the attack was impulsive, unplanned and was prompted by anger at France's "decline".
