The Supreme Court has directed states and UTs to not issue fitness certificates or permits for public vehicles without emergency panic buttons and tracking devices. The court issued the direction after noting that less than 1% of such vehicles currently have mandatory tracking devices. The bench called the situation "disturbing" and said these devices are essential to ensure passenger safety.
