Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, while responding to questions in Rajya Sabha, said there are no plans to legalise same-sex marriage. Prasad was asked by Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien, "Whether same-sex couples can register their marriage as per Indian law, if so, the details thereof, if not, the reasons thereof." In September 2018, Supreme Court had decriminalised gay sex.
