North Korean defector elected MP in South Korea for the 1st time

Former North Korean deputy ambassador to the UK, Thae Yong-ho, has won a constituency seat in South Korea's parliamentary elections. He was running as a candidate from Seoul's Gangnam district. The 55-year-old is the first North Korean defector to become a lawmaker in South Korea. Thae fled the London Embassy and defected to the South with his family in 2016.
