New Zealand's department of corrections spent NZ$1 million (over ₹4.6 crore) on slush machines to keep prisons staff cool and reduce tensions with inmates during last year's heatwave. The drinks were more effective at keeping staff cool than chilled water, the department, which was criticised for the spendings, said. The drinks were used alongside wet face cloths and personal fans.
