Brazilian football legend Pelé's appearance once led to a civil war in Nigeria being stopped temporarily. A 48-hour ceasefire was called between the Nigerian government and the secessionist state of Biafra in 1969 so they could watch Pelé play for Santos against Nigerian Super Eagles. During the match, Pelé received a standing ovation. Pelé passed away aged 82 on Thursday.
