Pics of Mercury reveal cratered surface of the planet closest to the Sun
short by Daisy Mowke / on Friday, 24 June, 2022
The BepiColombo, a joint Japanese and European space mission, has beamed back fresh images of Mercury from its second flyby to the planet, coming as close as just 200 km above the surface. As the Sun seemingly rose over the planet, its cratered surface came into view. Pictures show the 1,550 km-wide Caloris basin and Heaney, a 125 km-wide crater.
