A prehistoric animal that lived almost 180 million years ago is the single ancestor of all the living mammals today, including humans, a study has found. As per researchers who carried out genome reconstruction for the study, Morganucodon, a prehistoric animal that lived about 200 million years ago, most likely matched the earliest mammal ancestor.
