RBI hikes contactless card payments limit to ₹5,000 from ₹2,000

The RBI has hiked the limit for contactless card transactions and e-mandates for recurring transactions through cards and UPI from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000. The new limit, which will be effective from January 1, will be at discretion of the user. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the aim was to expand adoption of digital payments in a safe and secure manner.
