Researchers have developed a technique to preserve donated kidneys that would keep them viable for longer, thus increasing their availability. They used normothermic perfusion method in which oxygenated blood is pumped through a kidney to simulate the flow of blood within an organ. In the currently used cold storage method, chances of damaging the organ due to ice are higher.
