Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday said that over five lakh road accidents occur in India annually in which about one lakh people die. "It's sad that India is on top in the number of deaths due to road accidents," Gadkari said, while taking up an amendment bill in the Parliament, seeking increased penalties for offences such as drunk driving.
