Scientists discover new genetic disease that delays kids' brain development

Scientists discovered a new genetic disease that causes abnormal brain development in kids, resulting in delayed intellectual growth and early onset of cataracts. Most of these patients had microcephaly, a birth defect where baby's head is smaller than expected. Changes in a protein-coding gene called glutamate ionotropic receptor AMPA type subunit 1 (GRIA1) cause this disease, researchers said.
