Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed in East and West Imphal districts ahead of the tabling of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The order has been imposed because of intense agitation launched by various civil society organisations against the passing of the bill. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on January 8.
