Tamil Nadu School Education Department has instructed Chief Education Officers to identify and take action against schools that make students wear wrist bands of various colours to identify their caste. Some schools allegedly use these bands to discriminate against students by prohibiting them from using common plates during mid-day meals. Rings and forehead tilaks are also used as caste markers.
