Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Monday formally began the construction of the automaker's Shanghai Gigafactory, which is its first factory outside the US. The factory will produce "affordable versions" of Tesla Model 3 and proposed Model Y vehicles for the Greater China region. "Aiming to finish initial construction this summer...reach high volume production next year," Musk said in a tweet.
