UNESCO removes 'racist' Belgian carnival from heritage list

UNESCO removed an annual carnival in Belgium's Aalst from its heritage list over persistent antisemitism charges. The carnival of Aalst, which featured a parade float caricaturing Orthodox Jews, was withdrawn "over recurring repetition of racist and antisemitic representations". The carnival was initially added to UNESCO's list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2010.
