The US and Taliban agreed in principle to the framework of a peace deal that seeks to end the 17-year war in Afghanistan, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, said. The Taliban committed to prevent Afghanistan from being used by terrorists as part of the deal, he added. The Taliban must agree to a ceasefire, Khalilzad said.
