Wild elephants kill over 1,700 in four years in India

Over 1,700 people were killed by wild elephants in last four years across India. According to a report by the environment ministry, between 2015-2018, Central government has paid about ₹226 crore (₹2.26 billion) in compensation for loss of life and property resulting from encounters with wild elephants. As many as 373 elephants have been killed since 2015, the report added.
