What is aphasia, the brain disorder actor Bruce Willis suffers from?

Veteran actor Bruce Willis has retired from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia. Aphasia is a disorder that results from damage to portions of the brain that are responsible for language. The disorder impairs the expression and understanding of language, as well as reading and writing. It can be caused by dementia, infections, strokes, head injuries and brain tumours.
