Heartburn causes a burning pain in your chest, and often gets worse after eating caused by stomach acid rising into your esophagus. Doctors say when heartburn becomes chronic, it causes gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD. While there are medications that help relieve heartburn, many others make it worse or trigger it.
