In the first phase of Lok Sabha polls, Tamil Nadu reported a 39.51% voter turnout by 1 pm. Voting is underway for all 39 seats, including Chennai North, Chennai South, Chennai Central, Vellore, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Madurai and Kanyakumari. "The election is going smoothly as of now," state Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said.
