Yale University is named after a slave trader who exploited India

Elihu Yale was governor president of the East India company in late 17th century. During his 30+ years in Madras, he orchestrated a successful slave trade business and exported thousands of Indians as slaves. After returning to England in 1699, he made donations to an American college, largely from the money made trading slaves, which got named Yale College.
