New weekly claims for unemployment in the US fell below one million for the first time since March amid the coronavirus pandemic. Data showed that 963,000 claims were filed in the week ended August 8, a drop of 228,000 from previous week. Total Americans receiving unemployment benefits fell by 3 million to 28.3 million in the week ended July 25.
