Why was January 26 chosen as Republic Day of India?

Constituent Assembly adopted Indian Constitution on November 26, 1949, but it came into effect on January 26, 1950. The day was chosen as the official enactment date to mark 'Purna Swaraj' declaration. Indian National Congress, at its 1929 Lahore session, passed a resolution, demanding 'Purna Swaraj' from British and asking people to observe January 26, 1930 as 'Purna Swaraj Day'.

The unfurling and hoisting of National Flag carry different symbolic meanings on India's national days. On Republic Day (January 26), the President unfurls the flag, which is tied at the top. It symbolises the nation's reaffirmation of its commitment to the Constitution. On Independence Day (August 15), the PM hoists it from base to top, signifying freedom from colonial rule.

US Supreme Court clears extradition of 26/11 accused Tahawwur Rana to India

The United States Supreme Court approved the extradition of the 26/11 Mumbai attack accused Tahawwur Rana to India, rejecting his plea against the move. The order came on January 21, a day after Donald Trump took oath as US President. Rana, who is currently inside Metropolitan Detention Center in LA, is known to be associated with Pakistani-American terrorist David Headley.
Fire breaks out in 2 parked vehicles near Mahakumbh Mela; 1 completely gutted

A fire erupted in two parked vehicles near the Mahakumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj on Saturday. According to a fire officer, the vehicles caught fire due to extreme heat, with one of them being completely burnt. "No one was harmed in the fire," the fire officer added. Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot to extinguish the flames.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Umar Nazir, the six-foot-four-inch tall pacer who dismissed Rohit Sharma for 3(19) in Mumbai’s first innings in their Ranji Trophy match, was born in Pulwama on November 3, 1993. He made first-class debut in December 2013. Prior to the match against Mumbai, Umar played 57 first-class matches, taking 138 wickets. He also spearheads an academy in Pulwama.
