Govt finds VW cars in India with "defeat device"

The government on Tuesday said initial findings by the Automotive Research Association of India found that Volkswagen diesel cars manufactured in India with the E189 engine were fitted with the "defeat device". The "defeat device" senses the vehicle being tested and adjusts engine performance to the regulatory emission test cycle. Volkswagen will recall 3.23 lakh cars fitted with the device.
