The Met Gala, officially known as Costume Institute Benefit, is a charity event and fundraiser held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The benefit was founded in 1948 by publicist Eleanor Lambert. The event is held on the first Monday of May and also marks the launch of annual spring exhibit that brings visitors to the museum.
