Govt grants silver import permits up to 6,000 tonnes ahead of Diwali: Report

The government has issued new permits allowing silver imports of up to 6,000 tonnes ahead of Diwali, Bloomberg reported. Valid for six months, the permits are expected to ease supply during the peak jewellery-buying season. The government introduced new licensing requirements for silver imports in May to preserve foreign-exchange reserves and support the rupee.
