What happens to an FD if a borrower fails to repay the loan?

If a borrower fails to repay a loan against a fixed deposit, the lender may send reminders before liquidating the pledged deposit to recover the outstanding amount, including interest and other charges. Any balance is returned to the depositor. If the FD proceeds fall short of the total dues, the borrower remains liable for the difference under the loan agreement.
