Like the pancreas, the brain accumulates amyloid deposits that clump nerve cells "like fog", worsening memory. Uncontrolled diabetes, cholesterol, and smoking accelerate it. But well-controlled diabetics may get less Alzheimer's, he noted, as they manage every risk factor rigorously.
