The Trade Marks Registry has withdrawn its acceptance of an application for registration of the mark 'Ch*****ram' for namkeen and biscuits brand. According to Bar and Bench, the registry claimed it had been accepted "in error". It triggered a debate among intellectual property law practitioners, who questioned review process and legal implications of registering "potentially offensive terms".
