Uganda's Ngogo chimpanzees, the world's largest known wild chimp community of around 200, have permanently split into two warring factions in what scientists call the first clearly documented chimp 'civil war'. Beginning in 2015, the Western and Central clusters turned on each other, with Western chimps killing seven adult males and 17 infants between 2018 and 2024, a study revealed.
