Michigan University scientists have suggested that dinosaurs were enormous "ecosystem engineers" and their extinction re-engineered Earth. Dinosaurs knocked down vegetation, causing rivers to spill openly, but after extinction, forests flourished, which stabilised riverbanks, the study found. "It's rarely thought...life itself could actually alter...climate and the landscape," lead author said.
