A Public Interest Litigation in Punjab and Haryana High Court sought a law to make it mandatory for all women, including widows, divorcees, and those in live-in relationships, to perform Karwa Chauth rituals. The petitioner also requested amendments to laws to make non-participation punishable. The HC allowed the petitioner to withdraw the plea and imposed a token cost of ₹1,000.
