'Rape' rumour that sparked violence on LPU campus unfounded, police move to shut case

After Lovely Professional University (LPU) witnessed violence, wherein police cars were torched and an IAF aircraft that was put on display was vandalised, the police have filed a closure report on allegations that a rape occurred in a hostel. The allegations had sparked violence. After recording statements of 50 people and assessing CCTV footage, police called the allegations "unfounded".
