WHO declares India as free of Trachoma blindness

Trachoma, a bacterial eye infection that causes irreversible permanent blindness - has been eliminated as a public health emergency in India, according to the WHO. The achievement, recognized at a regional committee meeting, marks a significant decline from five per cent blindness due to Trachoma in the 1970s to achieving Trachoma free status today.
