Around 1,000 tourists were stranded in north Sikkim due to landslides in the region, which is also witnessing heavy rain, police said. Several tourists had reportedly sought shelter at a gurdwara in Chungthang, which is roughly 100 kilometres away from the state capital Gangtok. Authorities have cancelled all permits given to tourists for visiting the region until further notice.
