short by Anmol Sharma / on Monday, 5 May, 2025
A 1,40,000-km wide sunspot, called AR 4079, has appeared on Sun. It's the largest sunspot to be spotted this year so far. It covers an area equal to 50% of Carrington's sunspot in 1859. Sunspots are the visible component of active regions, areas of intense and complex magnetic fields on Sun that are source of solar eruptions, as per NASA.
